Sally Ride Elementary ISS Contact: 2024

John Knott N4JTK from Orlando Amateur Radio Club. Is leading a program where the kids from Sally Ride Elementary will make ISS Contact. He is looking for people to help out. If you can help reach out to him, this is a great chance to share Ham Radio with the local youth. Here are the latest details that I have received….

Greetings everyone – I have completed a Google Form that can be used to sign up to be a part of the team that will help facilitate the contact made with the ISS and students from Sally Ride Elementary. To re-iterate what we have mentioned in the past, no date has been set for the contact, no dates have been set for our 5 opportunities to meet and educate students about ham radio, and no first Zoom meeting for a committee has been scheduled yet. However, things will start happening quickly.

The link to the Google Form is https://forms.gle/3TSWCcVL47HciMxx9 . Please read the form and fill out all the information requested. Please understand that this event will have multiple levels of volunteers, some are yet to be determined. We will have a planning committee. Obviously, everyone can not be on the planning committee or otherwise we may never accomplish anything, but everyone's capabilities will be considered along with what you can bring to the planning committee.

We are going to need help with the 5 opportunities with meeting with the kids and teaching ham radio. We’ll need help with setting up equipment and tearing it back down at these 5 opportunities and the day of contact. We’ll need help with the day of contact and managing answering questions with approximately 400 students. There are areas that we will need help with that we don’t even know about yet. My point being is that we need YOU, the membership of OARC to help educate today’s youth on amateur radio and making this an enjoyable and memorable experience.

As we discover other areas that we need help with, the form will be modified to include these. Those already signed up will also be made aware as you may want to re-dedicate time to another area of assistance. Because of being in the infancy of this project, please be patient and acceptable to a changing environment.

Anyone that previously sent me an email volunteering to assist, please take the time and fill out the form. This form will be the official way to sign up.

Thank you again for your patience and making this the greatest hobby in the world!
