The goal of Hams for PanCAN is to raise awareness for pancreatic cancer through the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s (PanCAN) PurpleStride event, the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer. We’ll also provide information on how PanCAN supports patients and helps fund critical research to improve outcomes.
We also want to recognize ham radio hobbyists who we lost to pancreatic cancer from across the country. Each of the N#P teams will provide QSL information along with any highlights of those patients who are fighting or have fought valiantly but lost the fight against pancreatic cancer.
LMARS will be operating the LMARS "Pamela & Alfred LaPeter Memorial Operations Trailer" from Torcaso Park in Winter Springs April 29th, 2023 from 9:00AM - 6:00PM under the callsign N4P.
In N4P we want to recognize two ham radio hobbyists who we lost to pancreatic cancer:
From Orlando, Florida, Al LaPeter W2AS was an active ham radio operator in all aspects. He lost his battle with pancreatic cancer and we wish to recognize and honor him on this site. The trailer we will be operating from is named for Al and his wife for all of their many activities within the LMARS ham radio community.

The second honoree for our site is from the Atlanta area, Dr. Michael Rein. Dr. Michael Rein who passed away at home on December 5, following a 2 ½ year battle with pancreatic cancer. Michael graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard College in 1965 and from Harvard Medical School in 1969. He joined the faculty of UVA Medical School in 1975, and was a consultant to the World Health Organization, the National Institutes of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control.
