Come join Lake Monroe Amateur Radio Society (LMARS) as we participate in the 2025 Annual Winter Field Day event!

The intention of WFD is a winter emergency communications exercise, where ham radio operators can practice operating portable in an environment that is not always favorable to warm and nice weather. But for us we typically have nice weather… It is a time to operate outdoors without the heat of Summer.

Whether your interest is setting up equipment, operating on the air, exploring various modes of operation, or simply enjoying the camaraderie of fellow hams, we encourage you to come and be part of the experience. We will have HF stations operating voice and CW. We also hope to make some VHF/UHF, and potentially satellite contacts. Our primary goal is to ensure everyone has a great time. Mark your calendars and make plans to join us for this exciting event.

All are welcome!

What is Winter Field Day:

The first Winter Field Day was first held on January 13-14, 2007 becoming an annual event, and it continues to grow every year. It was started as a practice for EmComm during a time of Natural disaster. Winter is the perfect time for training and operating skills as they should not be limited to fair-weather scenarios. Preparedness is the key to a professional and timely response during any event. Ham radio operators should practice portable emergency communications in winter environments as the potential for freezing temperatures, snow, ice, and other hazards present unique operational concerns. WFD is formatted to help increase your level of preparedness for disasters and improve your operational skills in subpar conditions.
